Because I Think It's Gonna Get Even Weirder Around Here...

"Knowing how we’ve been tossing and turning these past few nights for fear of where our dreams may be taking us, I’m not about to pretend that that man, in that moon, has our best interests at heart. No way, he’s too much of a kidder."
- Chris Stevens in Northern Exposure

The cartoon below kinda sums it up. Click to enlarge.

Fascinating. I'm going to go consult the nearest oracle.

This time around, I'm not convinced that even the oracles know what's going to happen. Personally, I recommend stocking up on booze and Pepperidge Farm snacks & cookies, but that's just me.

I miss both Northern Exposure and Bloom County. Both were brilliant and insightful and quirkily entertaining.

Booze and cookies? Check!

I do agree that it will most likely get far weirder before it gets unweird.

I've been trying to use the Crown Royal Snorklewacker Supression System. But last night I deciced that if I continued, I would end up in AA. It seems sharing scares me more than Snorklewacker's.

Here Snorkie. Here Snorkie, let's get this thing over. Do you like Pepperige Farm cookie?

lacochran: I agree completely and make sure that both my Bloom County books and Northern Exposure DVDs are easily accessible.

Ronda: How could Snorklewackers not like Pepperidge farm cookies? Everybody likes Pepperidge Farm cookies!

Relax. Maybe catch a Michael Jackson concert or zone out to an oxyclean infomercial. Hop on a plane and fly to Honduras for a mini-getaway, or just ride the metro around here at home. Catch up on old episodes of Charlie's Angels. The world is your oyster and it's business as usual.

Everything Is Fine. Nothing To See Here.

At least, not since Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper crashed and died more or less simultaneously in an Iowa cornfield on Feb. 3, 1959.

These people are not gone, they're just resting and pining for the fjords.

"Thank you, Mr. Sendak, thank you for reminding us that we should never, ever lose touch with that wild, untamable spirit within us all. You know, mayhem has gotten a bad rap and chaos is taking it on the chin in these pathologically normal and rational times. Even up here in Alaska, we're turning our back on the beast. We've opted for the zoo where the lion can't eat you, instead of the jungle where he can. Qu'elle dommage. What a drag."

I've found some little white pills that are tremendous help for this sort of thing.

Ryane: Was that the episode where Chris went around stealing random stuff from people? [Looking it up with the Google...] Oh my God - it was THAT episode! "Spring Break." The one with the ice breaking, the boxing match and the "Running of the Bulls." If I remember correctly, after raving about the show incessantly to my old roommates I was finally able to persuade them to watch the next scheduled episode. Turns out it was this one. Needless to say, they were immediately hooked.

Rothko: "Hammer's little helper?"

My plan is to duck and cover, but keep one eye open and watching this space.

i think we can both agree that there are far, far too few bloom county references in pop culture today. my dad used to buy them all when i was in elementary school, and id read them and laugh at what i could understand, and what i probably misunderstood.

northern exposure was my favorite show in highschool. my mom and i would watch it on her black and white TV. she'd be laying in bed and id sit on the floor in front of her. it was really the only time we spent together where one of us wasnt pissed off at the other. while we get along great now, i really looked forward to our weekly ceasefires watching it (and LA Law) together and look back upon those times with a fondness.

thanks for the post !

Only Bill Watterson knew when to hang it up. The rest of you are just sullying our own legacies, like Brethed, Schulz, etc. I would expect Hammer to be a fan of this has-been.

Not like us, the "Jim Davis's" of the blog world. We keep going and going and are still fresh!
